Privacy policy

Last updated: 10 October 2026

This website is a marketing site for Crochet by Skovgaard: it shows my handmade work and links to my Etsy shop. It has no shop, accounts, forms or email address, and it doesn't ask you for personal information. This policy explains the little data that is involved, under the UK GDPR (with the Data Protection Act 2018) and, for visitors in the EU and EEA, the EU GDPR.

Who is responsible

Crochet by Skovgaard is the name I use for my handmade crochet, which I run from the UK. It is not a registered company or sole trader. For the limited information described on this page, I am the “data controller”.

Orders, payments and messages happen in my Etsy shop. Etsy runs those, and Etsy's own terms and privacy policy apply to them, not this page.

What this website involves

This is the full list of personal information connected to this website:

WhatWhyLegal basis
Technical data such as your IP address, browser and the pages requested, recorded in server logs by the website's hosting providerTo deliver the website, keep it secure and fix faultsMy legitimate interest in a working, secure site (GDPR art. 6(1)(f))
Your IP address, when my latest Instagram pictures load from Instagram's servers on the home pageTo show my Instagram picturesMy legitimate interest in showing my work (art. 6(1)(f))
Website usage statistics from Google Analytics (visited pages, device type, approximate location, how you found the site)To understand which pages are useful and to see how people find the shop on GoogleYour consent (art. 6(1)(a)). Only if you accept analytics cookies

Etsy orders and messages

If you buy from my Etsy shop or message me there about a custom order, that happens on Etsy, under Etsy's terms and privacy policy. Etsy handles your account, messages and payment.

To post an order I can see the delivery address you give Etsy. That might be your home or a collection point you choose, such as a Royal Mail or other pickup location. I use it only to send your order and to keep order records as UK tax rules require. I keep it no longer than I need to for those reasons.

Who sees it

I don't sell your information or use it for advertising. The services involved are:

  • The website's hosting and network providers (including Cloudflare, which also runs the service that loads my Instagram pictures). They process technical data like your IP address to deliver the site.
  • Google, if you accept analytics cookies: Google Analytics receives the usage data described in the cookie policy.
  • Etsy, which runs the shop, its messages, orders and payments.
  • Couriers and the postal service, who deliver your order using the address from Etsy.
  • HMRC or other authorities, if I'm legally required to provide records.

Instagram, Facebook and other websites

Links to the Etsy shop, Instagram, Facebook and other websites leave this site. Their own privacy policies apply once you are there, and I'm not responsible for how they handle your information. If you contact me through Instagram or Facebook instead of Etsy, those platforms handle your message under their own policies.

The latest posts from my Instagram account are shown on the home page. The pictures are loaded from Instagram's servers (run by Meta), so Meta can see your IP address when they load. This site tells them nothing about which page you are on.

The fonts and the shop photos on this site are served from the site itself, not from third parties.

Transfers outside the UK

Some of the services above (Google, Meta, Cloudflare, Etsy) are US companies or use servers outside the UK and the EU/EEA. Where information is transferred there, it relies on a safeguard recognised under UK and EU law, such as the UK–US data bridge, the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or standard contractual clauses.

How long it is kept

I keep information only as long as it is needed for the reason it was collected:

  • Server logs: kept by the hosting provider for a short time only.
  • Google Analytics data: kept for the period set in Google Analytics, which is never longer than 14 months.
  • Your cookie choice: see the cookie policy.
  • Delivery details: see “Etsy orders and messages” above.

Your rights

Under the UK GDPR and the EU GDPR you have the right to:

  • ask for a copy of the information I hold about you (access)
  • have wrong information corrected (rectification)
  • have your information deleted (erasure), unless I must keep it by law
  • ask me to restrict how I use it
  • receive the information you gave me in a portable format
  • object to uses based on my legitimate interest
  • withdraw your consent at any time, for example for analytics cookies. This doesn't affect anything done before you withdrew

Changes to this policy

If this website changes how it handles information, I'll update this page and the date at the top.

Contact and complaints

To use any of your rights, or if you have a question about this policy, message me through the Etsy shop. I'll answer within one month.

If you think I've handled your information wrongly, please tell me first so I can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. If you live in the EU/EEA, you can also complain to the data protection authority in your country.
